The much revered ancient theme of spring’s abundance takes on a modern narrative inspired by a mythical deity Artemis. I chose to appropriate the codes of Greek mythology to suitably reinvent them for contemporary art. The mask-clad huntress embodies the idea of nature as a life force, manifesting itself in conquests and in the practice of hunting. Nature’s vital power can bring forth new life as much as it can destroy it. Fiercely protective of the untamed world, the Huntress challenges our relationship with nature by allowing plants, animals, and the landscape temporarily free of human interventions to slowly replenish and heal. She is the allegorical Primavera, the messenger of earth’s perpetual circle of life.
