Description

My "Self-portrait a la Camille Claudel" is a miniature painting executed in acrylic on wood, dimensions 2.5" x 2.5." I was quite touched by Bruno Nuytten's film "Camille Claudel" and decided to pay a small homage of my own to the tragic, 19th century French sculptor by depicting myself as a bohemian, working-class woman wearing an original velour hat with feathers, circa 1890, and a period dress borrowed from a theatre company. My self-portrait is dedicated to all those wonderful, 19th century women who dared to be artists, defied society, and aspired to be equal to men :)
